Home Ice Disadvantage; The Ghost of Home Game 7s Past...

Game 7s and the Washington Capitals don't usually get along. The ultimate optimist would have his doubts about tonight's decisive seventh game versus the Rangers.

Yes, the home teams have dominated this series (tonight's game is at the friendly confines of the Verizon Center). And the Rangers have never won a game 7 on the road (0-5 all time). But trends be damned. Outside of squeaking by the Rangers four seasons ago, the Capitals have been downright putrid at home in game 7s (putrid is putting it nicely)

An 3-2 overtime loss to to the Flyers in 2008....

...followed by a 6-2 pasting at the hands of the Penguins a year later...

...And, of course, one of the most heartbreaking losses in team history; a 2-1 loss to the eighth-seeded Montreal Canadians in 2010.

But hey, it is a new season. All those other game 7s are in the past. Win tonight and our beloved Caps will be Rocking the Red for at least one more series.
